Developer Rare and publisher Nintendo collaborate for another handheld game in this enhanced sequel to 1997's Diddy Kong Racing on Nintendo 64. The U.K. developer's first DS title combines go-kart, plane, and hovercraft racing on an assortment of exotic courses. The game is also notable for incorporating adventure elements with its traditional racing action. Players can revisit courses to complete such quest-like objectives as collecting keys or defeating boss characters.
Power-ups in the form of rockets, oil slicks, and more are available to use on rivals, and wireless racing is supported for up to eight players in both single- and multi-card formats. DS-exclusive features include new playable characters, touch-screen controls, microphone support, and a variety of new modes, weapons, and other surprises. Players can even design their own custom tracks to share with friends and family.
